16 September 1958, Jennifer Tilly was born in Los Angeles in extremely substandard conditions. Her mother, who was a failing schoolteacher and actor, made a living selling automobiles while her father was an auto salesman. Jennifer was the second daughter in her family and she frequently took her mother, who was employed as a schoolteacher, to theater performances. She thought she was amazing. Jennifer's father and mother split at the age five. Jennifer was brought up to British Columbia by her mother, who moved with her four siblings. Jennifer was not a scholar, though as a youngster she was a talented artist. The time she spent in Canadian schools caused her to be often the target of bullying. When her passion for theater waned, she began acting in plays in support of her mother. Her mother encouraged her entire family to get involved in the art of making. Then she began taking action.
